With the pop of a champagne cork, Shah Rukh Khan launched Louis Philippe's new `Don' collection on Monday at the Louis Philippe store on Linking Road, Khar, Mumbai. As the name suggests, the collection is inspired by the movie and aims to bring the Don's style to a whole new generation of fans.

"If you see the (original) movie, it is connected to a very different generation," said head designer Samrat. "So this collection is a fantastic vehicle to connect the new Don to the young generation."

According to Madura Garments' President, Mr Hemchandra Javeri, the Don concept is an inspirational one. So when the producers of the movie came calling, he was not going to say no. "We connected with the stylist of the movie and created a lot of clothes together," Samrat said. "You will see Shah Rukh in one of our suits for two songs in the movie. We planned all that. And we took some specific garments that were inspiring for us and created a line based on them. We created them for a man who is not a film star."

The target market for the collection may be anyone who resonates with the Don's ethos, but Mr Javeri suggests that it is the 20-somethings who will be most attracted to the line.

At this stage Louis Philippe has no concrete plans to turn the Don collection into a permanent line. The idea is to introduce the collection in the market with a bang, and then take it forward from there depending on how things evolve.
