Ranbaxy to market Swiss gastro drug

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct 23

Ranbaxy Laboratories said on Monday that it has earned the exclusive rights to market Sanvar, the new chemical entity (NCE) drug of Swiss biopharmaceutical company Debiopharm Group, in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

The injectible molecule is a synthetic analogue of a naturally occurring hormone and is used in the treatment of gastroenterological problems.

Sanvar can be stored at room temperature allowing immediate administration, which advantage it enjoys over competitors.

The drug is currently undergoing Phase III clinical trials in the US where it holds orphan drug status; Debiopharm is expected to file for approval in early 2007.

Mr Sanjeev Dani, Regional Director (India & Middle East), Ranbaxy, said: "We are glad to partner with Debiopharm in the gastroenterology area and shall work towards creating a productive relationship by complementing each others strengths."
