E-Governance Info-Tech - Internet IT Ministry to launch portal on e-governance Priyanka Vyas
The portal will cover developments in agriculture, banking, education, environment, forest and health in Africa, West Asia, Asia and Europe.
New Delhi , Oct. 25 For private players interested in implementing e-governance solutions within and outside the country, the Ministry of Information Technology will soon start a portal to provide information on such projects. Armed with details on tenders being offered for e-governance projects, the portal intends to be a one-stop shop for corporate entities seeking to cater to various ministries. The portal will also feature interviews with various top government officials who will talk about the projects undertaken under the e-governance initiative, status of the projects and new ventures being considered. An initiative of the IT Department, National Institute of Smart Governance, Hyderabad has been given the task of managing the project. NIIT and Reliance Communications will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the portal. Industry sources said: "Apart from private players wanting to pick up business, the portal will also be targeted at policy makers, so that they can keep pace with e-governance initiatives being rolled out on a global basis. There is a partnership that has been worked out with international organisations to source content on the e-governance initiatives being implemented in different countries. This would enable companies to track developments locally and globally." The portal will also cover developments in sectors such as agriculture, banking, education, environment, forest and health in geographies including Africa, West Asia, Asia as well as Europe.
Happenings-related info
Besides e-governance, the portal would be a happenings-related information service for the IT Ministry, be it the launch of an e-auction platform for tea in India or Intel Chairman, Mr Craig Barrett's visit to the country. Through the portal, the Government also plans to offer various courses on e-procurement and e-learning that will enable government officials to pursue courses relevant to their current professional needs. "We found through a survey that there is an enormous interest among government officials to undertake IT related courses," said one of the project partners.
