Industrial Policy States - Karnataka Govt mulls industrial plans for all districts Our Bureau
Mangalore , Oct. 25 The Karnataka Government plans to prepare industrial plans for all districts and has constituted a State-level team to study the industrial scenario in every district. Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a review meeting, organised by the Kanara Small Industries Association (KSIA) at Baikampady in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mr Shivanand Naik, Minister for Small Scale Industries, said the members of the team would visit all districts in the State to study the industrial scenario prevailing there.
Survey
Apart from meeting the elected representatives and industrialists in every district, the team members will also visit the industrial areas there. The team will collect details on the problems of industries, and the availability of raw material and infrastructure in every district. Based on the demands, the team will also study the feasibility of setting up additional industrial areas in the districts. The Minister said that the team is expected to submit its report in three-four months. The team has already visited the Uttara Kannada, Dharwad and Belgaum districts and will visit Dakshina Kannada district soon. The survey report will help the Government to prepare industrial plan for each district, Mr Naik said.
Vacant land
The Government has acquired around 2,500 acres for small-scale industries in the State after a gap of 10 years, he said. He added that the Government plans to do away with the system of allotting vacant industrial sites through auction system; such a system helped only a few rich industrialists, he pointed out. In the proposed system, a committee will fix value for the industrial sites, which would be allotted to those who fulfil the criteria fixed by the committee.
