More than 100 cos to showcase their products

Chennai , Oct. 25

The market for products and services related to kids is worth Rs 20,000 crore, according to Mr P.K. Mohapatra, President and CEO, RPG Enterprises.

He told the press here today that the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise Kidex 2006, an event for kids, parents, retailers and distributors concerned with products and services relating to kids, between December 22 and 24 at the Chennai Trade Centre.

He said a statistical business estimation on the `tween' (between 8 and 12 years) economy, conducted by CII, reveals that the market for apparel targeted at this segment is worth Rs 7,000 crore, the market for gizmos is at Rs 4,600 crore, and the market for nutrition and food is Rs 2,500 crore.

He said Kidex 2006 would showcase a wide range of these products, technologies and services - more than 100 companies are expected to participate and exhibit products and services.

It would also provide a business platform for companies to network, and give these companies an opportunity to understand kids better, since participants would include children, their parents, as well as teachers from various educational institutions.

Some of the events include a business to business conference; a digital art festival organised by CII and NIIT, which would see 4,000 students from around the country participating; competitions on crafts, music and dance; as well as live product and equipment demonstrations.
