Telecom software maker Flextronics Software Systems Ltd has been renamed Aricent following the acquisition of 85 per cent of the business by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR) and Sequoia Capital. Flextronics still has 15 per cent stake in the company, which was earlier known as Hughes Software.

The company today said that it plans to invest about $100 million in research and an equipment laboratory in the next three years.

"We expect to grow at better than the industry average of 30 to 35 per cent in the next three years," said Mr Manoranjan Mohapatra, President and Chief Operating Officer of Aricent.

Aricent, based in Gurgaon, will continue to provide software services and products for the communications industry. The company, which has 6,700 employees, plans to hire 3,000 people by March.

Aricent provides services to equipment manufacturers such as Nokia and Ericsson, device manufacturer like Motorola, Samsung and Nokia, besides providing comprehensive product offering for all customer types.

"We are helping some three to four companies in experimenting with Wi-Max in technology development area," Mr Mohapatra said.

"Communications technologies have grown increasingly complex, and consumers expect to communicate easily anywhere and at anytime.

These competing forces prompted all segments of the communication ecosystem to demand a software specialist with superior skills, speed and scale.

Aricent is that communication software pure-play," said Mr Ashish Bhardwaj, Aricent's Chief Executive Officer. Aricent has 25 offices across 13 countries.
