Hyderabad , Oct. 27

The fastest four-door Bentley Continental Flying Spur with a cruise speed capability of 312 km per hour was launched here and will be followed by the introduction of a Convertible version in India late this year or early next year.

The makers of this car believe that there is immense potential in the Indian market for such cars and they are poised to set up their second dealership in Mumbai following on Delhi.

The Managing Director of Bentley New Delhi, Mr Satya Prakash Bagla, said that the company has sold close to 50 such cars priced at about Rs 1.95 crore ex-showroom, and the new dealership and enhanced service facility would help tap into a much larger market in India.

The Regional Sales Manager, West Asia, Africa and India, Bentley, Mr Ian Hession, said that the company production capacity is being increased 10-fold from the current capacity of 1,000 cars to 10,000. The cars are marketed in over 50 countries and the demand has gone up. The expansion is poised to be completed early next year and would enable the launch of the convertible option.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Hession said that Continental Flying Spur features a 6-litre, twin turbocharged, 12-cylinder engine and propels to 60 miles per hour in 60 seconds. The four-door Continental Flying Spur is a brilliant example of how to match technology with craftsmanship and boasts of most of the features even the best sports car in the world has and luxury to cap it on.

Mr Hession said that the launch of the Continental Spur is a further step forward in the revitalisation of Bentley, which began in 1998 with significant investment in Crewe, the company's design, engineering and manufacturing headquarters.

These cars bring in exquisite craftsmanship, and about 1,000 cars are sold worldwide annually. Strictly speaking there are no competitors, it is in its own league. A prospective buyer, if he so wishes can explore a visit to the plant, Mr Hession said.
