`Students must develop global mindset'

Chennai , Oct. 27

Fresh management graduates need to develop a global mindset and work hard to achieve success, according to Ms Anita Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer, Cerebrus Consultants.

Addressing students at `Managemantra 2006', a two-day seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Southern Region, she said management institutes could help students develop a global mindset by providing them a cosmopolitan exposure.

Mr Sreeram Iyer, Chief Executive Officer, Scope International Private Ltd, said students must develop professionalism in their work. "Even if you don't want to join a company, be professional in declining their job offer," he told the 350-strong student gathering from about 40 colleges in South India. He urged them to understand how global companies worked so that they could provide value added services to customers in future.

Other speakers at the seminar suggested that students also look at becoming entrepreneurs and not remain content with working for companies. `Managemantra' is an annual event that provides a platform for companies to interact with students from management institutes in South India.

Students compete with each other in events such as business presentation, business case analysis and quiz. Sessions on how to face interviews and some soft skills training have been included this year.

Managemantra is also a recruitment avenue for companies.

This year about 15 companies are participating in the event.
