Non-conventional Energy Ideas sought for alternative energy sources development Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 27 The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, headed by Mr N. Janardhana Reddy, MP, has invited comments from various stakeholders on the `Strategy for Development of Alternative Sources of Oil & Gas' before preparing a report on the issue and submitting to the Parliament. According to an official communiqué, "keeping in view the significance of the subject, the Committee have decided to invite written memoranda containing views/suggestions/comments from interested individuals/associations/experts/professional organisations/institutions on the subject, especially on ethanol and bio-diesel production/jatropha plantation and matters relating thereto." The subject involves issues relating to development of different alternative energy sources ethanol-blended petrol, bio-diesel/jatropha plantation, coal bed methane, underground coal gasification, gas hydrates, and hydrogen fuel. "The memoranda which might be submitted would form part of the records of the Committee and would be treated as strictly confidential and would not be circulated to anyone, as such an act would constitute a breach of privilege of the Committee," the statement said. Besides, those who would like to give oral evidence before the Committee apart from sending the memoranda could intimate the same to the Lok Sabha Secretariat for consideration of the Committee, the statement said. "The decision of the Committee to invite the persons for appearing before the Committee shall be final," it added. The memoranda to the Committee may be sent to Ms Anita Jain, Deputy Secretary, Lok Sabha, within 30 days of the date of the advertisement issued in this regard, the statement said.
