Our Bureau
Kolkata , Oct. 27 State Bank of India (SBI) has opened a branch at Singur (Hooghly district), the controversial location where the West Bengal Government wants Tata Motors to set up a factory for producing small cars but faces stiff opposition from various quarters over the issue of handing over fertile farm lands for industrial purposes. Inaugurating the branch, Mr Yogesh Agarwal, Managing Director and Group Executive (National Banking Group), SBI, stated that by opening the branch , the bank has fulfilled a long-standing demand of the local people for banking facilities in the prosperous semi-urban area of the State. The Reserve Bank of India's licence for opening the branch was received in end September and the branch was opened in record time.
