BOOK RELEASE: The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, handing over a copy of the book `Call of the 21st Century and other essays' to the Managing Director of Tata Steel, Mr B. Muthuraman, at the launch function of Business Line in Kolkata on Thursday. The book is written by Mr B.S. Raghavan (centre), a columnist and a retired civil servant. - A. Roy Chowdhury

Kolkata , Oct. 27

The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, on Thursday, at the launch function of Business Line, released a book titled `The Call of the 21st Century and Other Essays,' written by Mr B.S. Raghavan, a former civil servant, who has also been a columnist for Business Line since its inception.

The book, published by the ICFAI University Press, Hyderabad, covers a wide range of issues, including the emerging new challenges, perspectives in management, the national scene, the Indian economy and the global scenario,

The Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, Mr N. Ram, in his welcome speech, referred in particular to the essay on "The Secret of the Long Innings of the West Bengal Left Front Government" and said it had lucidly brought out the reasons for the effectiveness and appeal of Left Front rule in the State.

Mr Raghavan's earlier series of four volumes under the title `Quintessence' was launched by the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, last year.
