Chennai , Oct. 29 A division of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Ltd has been awarded a `silver' rating by the US Green Building Council. The company's Engineering Design & Research Centre at Manapakkam, near Chennai, has been awarded this certification for adopting energy efficient practices in the building and its premises, according to a press release.
Conservation strategies
The Centre is part of L&T's Engineering Construction & Contracts division and has adopted practices to conserve energy. Some of the features at the centre include automated systems to monitor water, energy, temperature and quality of air, waste material segregation and quantification, use of lamps having less than 3 mg mercury content and no sodium content and use of recycled paper and water, said the press release. The rating is certified under `Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for existing buildings'. Some aspects that are looked into prior to such certifications are energy and resource efficiency, waste reduction, pollution prevention, indoor air quality and availability of natural light to promote occupant health and productivity, said the press release.
