Aurobindo Pharma posts higher net

Aurobindo Pharma Ltd has reported its highest ever revenue and net profit for the second quarter of the current fiscal ended September 2006.

It posted a turnover of Rs 506.7 crore during the quarter under review as against Rs 327.1 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, a growth of 55 per cent.

The operating profit was up by 229 per cent at Rs 95.8 crore (Rs 29.1 crore), while the net profit improved by 1,417 per cent at Rs 54.6 crore (Rs 3.6 crore). During the quarter under review, the operating profit margin improved to 19 per cent from nine per cent, while the net profit margin jumped up to 11 per cent (one per cent).

In a press release here, the company attributed the improved performance to its thrust into regulated markets and formulation business.

The formulations sales have grown by 258 per cent and currently constitute 28 per cent of total sales.

The contribution of semi synthetic penicillins stood at 23 per cent, cephalosporins 30 per cent and antivirals and other active pharmaceutical ingredients at 19 per cent of total sales, reflecting a decisive improvement in the dosage formulations business.

The company's export sales have grown by 86 per cent and now constitute 58 per cent of its total sales as compared with 47 per cent in the corresponding quarter of previous fiscal. According to the company, the exports have shown significant improvement across all markets. While Indian sales stood at Rs 199.8 crore, Africa and Asia contributed Rs 127.9 crore, Europe Rs 76.2 crore and Americas Rs 76.1 crore, the release said.
