Bangalore , Oct. 30

Tamil Nadu has embarked upon a major initiative to promote six cities for establishing IT parks. In an announcement at the BangaloreIT.in, the IT Secretary, Mr C. Chandramouli, said with the availability of technically-skilled manpower in the State and growing demand for infrastructure from the industry, the State has identified Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli, Salem, Tirunelveli and Hosur for the purpose.

Work has already begun to establish the optimum size of IT parks in these cities. The parks would be commissioned within the next three months, he said.

More IT parks

The Government has proposed two types of IT parks in each of these cities, a tower-type IT park and a campus-type IT park. The tower-type IT park would be constructed in the similar lines of TIDEL Park at Chennai. The Government has already approved TIDEL park in (1 million sq ft) Coimbatore city, as a joint venture of ELCOT and TIDEL Park Ltd, Chennai

Mr Chandramouli said, "Land had been identified in all these cities for setting up of IT park. ELCOT has been the nodal agency promoting the IT parks. These IT parks would be eventually converted into SEZ. Large IT companies from India and abroad have already applied for land/built up space in all these IT parks."

"The main drivers for the IT and ITES companies is the talent pool and infrastructure. All six cities have excellent human resource pipeline through well-established colleges, the infrastructure is constantly upgraded," he added.
