Reliance Comm mulls co for towers

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Nov. 1

Reliance Communications is likely to create a telecom infrastructure company that will own and operate its base stations and towers. Sources close to the company said that US-based American Towers is in talks with Reliance for a small stake in this venture.

American Towers owns more than 30,000 towers across the US. Worldwide, it is increasingly a trend for third parties to own wireless networks that are hired out to multiple telecom operators.

In India too, the trend of sharing infrastructure by telecom operators has begun. Several large operators already have agreements in place for sharing infrastructure.
