Prices ease at Kochi tea auction

There was 9,79,000 kg of dust tea at the Kochi Tea Auction which found good general demand. High priced CTC varieties eased by Rs 1 to 3, while mediums and others remained barely steady. Prices of orthodox varieties tended to remain steady at last weeks' levels. Exporters were selective on CTC varieties while blenders lent general support. Domestic and internal buyers remained fairly active.

Best CTC dust commanded prices between Rs 63 and Rs 68, medium CTC ranged between Rs 50 and Rs 52 while below medium varieties were quoted at Rs 44-48. High grown BOPD dust quoted at Rs 102, medium BOPD ranged between Rs 46 and Rs 48 and secondaries was at Rs 42.

Leaf Sale

There was 3,47,000 kg of leaf tea on offer at the auction. Good quality leaves, primary bolder brokens and whole leaf grades remained steady. Prices of other medium brokens and fannings tended to ease by Rs 2 to 3. High grown orthodox prices remained firm. Prices of CTC varieties eased by Rs 1 to 2.

Exporters to CIS countries lent good support to best quality orthodox grades, while exporters to Iraq operated at lower levels. CTC varieties witnessed less demand from exporters. Best Nilgiri leaf was quoted at Rs 82-90, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 53 and Rs 85 and plain orthodox was at Rs 47-50.

Best CTC leaf ranged between Rs 48 and Rs 52 while medium CTC was at Rs 45-57.

Top Prices

Among the dust varieties, Kodanad BOPD commanded the top price at Rs 102, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 89, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 83 and Pasuparai SD at Rs 72. In the leaf section, Chamraj FOP was at Rs 103, followed by Sutton OP also at Rs 103, Chamraj OP again at Rs 103 and Havukal BOPF at Rs 101.
