A partly overcast sky greeted the 297 tourists from the UK who arrived in the city on Friday on a chartered flight, the first chartered flight of the 2006-07 tourism season.

The non-stop flight from Gatwick airport in the UK belonged to MyTravel Airways and landed in the city at around 2 pm. The tourists who arrived on the flight were received with garlands and a traditional panchavadhyam music ensemble. The chartered flight from Gatwick to Thiruvananthapuram will operate every Friday till March next year, said a tourism official.

Another chartered flight, operated by the UK-based First Choice Airways, is expected to start operations to Kerala from next week. This flight will operate once every fortnight and will continue services till April next year.
