MR VIJAY MALLYA

Mumbai, Nov. 3

United Spirits Ltd (USL) has entered into an agreement with Russian Standard Company, maker of the Russian Standard Vodka, to distribute USL's premium spirits in Russian markets.

USL will, in turn, import and distribute various brands of RSC's vodkas in the Indian market.

"Vodka, growing at 70 per cent, is the fastest growing spirit segment in India. This agreement will facilitate Indians to taste authentic Russian vodka," said Mr Vijay Mallya, Chairman, USL.

The company plans to launch Russian Standard Vodka (and other premium vodka brands of the company) in Indian markets by December this year. The Russian brands would be priced higher than the vodka brands of USL.

"With this deal, we add Russia to our existing roaring liquor markets of China and India," Mr Mallya said.

USL is in the process of establishing its presence in China. USL is evaluating similar tie-ups with companies in Mexico and Brazil for distributing drinks such as tequila and cacasha, said a senior official with the company.
