Bangalore , Nov. 4

International automobile design firm Caran Design Ltd has set up its first centre in India and is planning to recruit over 300 engineers in three years.

The Swedish company, which is part of Logica CMG Group, employs over 1,000 engineers in Europe with activities in automotive, aerospace, telecom, life science and others. "To us, India is not a low-cost country. It is a high-tech market," Caran's President, Mr Mats Rogbrant, said.

The Country Manager for India, Mr Barun Kumar, said the company would shortly hold talks with Indian automobile manufacturers for designing cars.

He said India might not have car designers but has enough talented manpower that can be trained for the specific needs of the company.

He said the company planned to send a few employees to Sweden for getting trained in car designing.

Internationally, Caran works for Volvo, Electrolux, Sony Ericsson, Airbus and Bombardier Transportation.
