Bharat Fritz plans subsidiary in Germany

Bharat Fritz Werner , a machine tool manufacturing company, will be setting up a marketing subsidiary in Germany to expand its product reach in Europe. The company plans to invest Rs 15 crore in the first phase to set up an office and showrooms to undetertake undertake direct marketing of its machines.

Mr N.N. Upadhyay, Senior Vice-President, said his company had a strong presence in the international market and hoped that direct marketing would increase its exports by 50 per cent from Rs 20 crore at present. Currently, the company serves its customers through dealers in China, France, Italy, Turkey and Singapore.

Bharat Fritz has also decided to invest Rs 45 crore on a new facility at Dobaspet near here to cater to the critical machining needs of the aerospace and engineering industry. The facility would be dedicated largely for HAL and BHEL, Mr Upadhyay said, adding that the facility would be ready for production by 2008.

BFW has emerged as a leading machine tools company for the key sectors such as automotive, engineering industries with captive manufacturing facility, a foundry and a research and development, said Mr Upadhyay. It also had a strategic technical alliance with Starrag Heckert — the Swiss supplier of manufacturing systems to the automotive, aerospace and power generation industries.

The company is expanding capacity at its existing units in Peenya and Hosur at a cost of Rs 60 crore for adding vertical machining and milling machines. With this expansion, the company hopes to increase turnover five fold by next fiscal to Rs 1,000 crore. It is also aiming to step up its exports from its current 10 to 12 per cent to 35 per cent in the next three years.
