Bets on the India growth story

Hyderabad , Nov. 4

Global multi-brand hotel chain Marriott plans to roll out several of its brands in India. It is all set to commission seven major hotels in the country and there are 20 more in the pipeline. It expects to push its Court Yard and even Ritz Carlton brands into India as many property developers are in parleys with the group.

The General Manager of Marriott, Hyderabad, Mr Philip Spencer, a veteran in the hospitality industry, said that Marriott group made a late entry into India in 1999 and now it manages about six properties. It is all set to add the Viceroy Hotel to its portfolio from Saturday following its renovation.

This is the first Hotel brand for Marriott in India and six others would follow by 2008. These include properties in Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida.

Mr Spencer said that China and India have been positioned as two of the fastest growing economies and the group too views them as focus area.

The 80-year-old group manages some 2,800 properties.
