CMA CGM, IBM in 50-50 JV

The CMA CGM Group, the world's third largest shipping group, and IBM, the computer major, have announced the creation of a 50-50 joint venture, CMA CGM SYSTeMS, to evolve an information technology system to support the French shipping group's growth projected.

The joint venture will provide design innovative solutions to help CMA CGM capture a bigger market share, accelerate implementation and deployment of major IT applications and leverage IBM's business expertise to achieve operating excellence. The joint venture will be based in Marseille and start operation from January 2007, employing 286 employees of CMA CGM at the outset. The new company hopes to achieve a turnover of approximately euro 700 million over next 10 years, according to CMA CGM sources.
