`Belgium gateway to EU for India'

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov. 5

The Prime Minister of Belgium, Mr Guy Verhofstadt, has invited Indian industry to invest in his country, saying Belgium will be a gateway to the EU and a global logistics and distribution hub.

While speaking at a meeting organised by industry chambers CII, FICCI, and Assocham here he said, "Notional interest deduction has made Belgium one of the most attractive investment destination for multinational corporations."

Mr Verhofstadt also said that the cost of capital investment in Belgium was the lowest in the world and it offered tax breaks in personal and corporate income-tax. Belgium and India have also reached an agreement to abolish dual social security under their social security agreement. These measures have enabled the country's economy to grow at 3 per cent annually.
