EU DEMAND FOR NON-BASMATI: Planting of paddy saplings in progress at Vadakumchery near Palakkad in Kerala. With the European Union coming down strongly on the presence of genetically modified organism in rice shipped from the US, prospects for exports of non-basmati rice from have improved. There is scope to export nearly three lakh tonnes of non-basmati rice to the European Union.
