Migratory sheep rearers plea

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Nov. 6

The United Farmers Association based in Salem district has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to provide subsidy for migratory sheep rearers to buy tent materials to set up make-shift shelters for their animals.

A submission in this regard was made to the State Animal Husbandry Minister, Ms Geetha Jeevan, during her visit to the Government sheep research farm at Chinnasalem in Villupuram district.

The Association President, Mr Vyapuri, said that there are about 20,000 sheep growers in the State who are constantly on migratory course with their animals which also enrich the fertility of the agriculture land. But these poor growers find it difficult in meeting the cost of the make-shift shelters for their animals. The Government can support the sheep rearers by extending subsidy for the tent materials and this can be implemented in phases, Mr Vyapuri suggested.
