E-Governance States - Andhra Pradesh Only 25 companies in Vizag file e-returns Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , Nov. 6 Till now, only 5,000 IT and FBT returns have been filed by companies in the country in the electronic mode, made mandatory this year, and in Visakhapatnam only 25. The last date for filing returns is November 30. This was stated by Mr M. Narasimhappa, Commissioner of IT, Range I, Visakhapatnam, at an interactive session with the assessees here on Monday. As it was the first year, he said, there were bound to be some teething problems, but the department would attempt to make it easy for the companies. A help centre had been set up for the purpose here. Using the digital signature, he said, the companies could file e-returns and there would be no need for filing of paper returns. The second option would be to file the e-return without digital signature and later submit the paper return. The third option would be file the e-return and paper return through an intermediary. "We advise assessees to make use of the second or third options this year, as it is the first year. Even if you have the digital signature, it may not be advisable to use it this year," he remarked. It was pointed out to Ms Harita, Assistant IT Commissioner, that some of the rural bank branches, such as the SBI branch at Yetikoppaka in Visakhapatnam district, did not have MICR numbers and unless the detail was mentioned it was becoming difficult to file the return. Mr Narasimhappa said the issue would be taken up with the banks and a way would be found to overcome the problem. The local companies can contact Mr N. Sivaraman, Assistant Director (Systems), who is manning the help centre, by ringing up 0891-2569122, to get their doubts cleared.
