Colgate shines on bonus hopes

The stock of Colgate Palmolive has been witnessing sudden spurt in price and trading volumes of late, despite the company reporting a drop in net profit for the second quarter ended September 30, 2006.

The stock has gained 9.8 per cent week-on-week and about 11.2 per cent over a month's period. Trading volumes also improved of late; average volumes for November stood at 2.90 lakh shares against October figure of 1.36 lakh shares.

According to market participants, expectation of bonus announcement by a section of the traders was influencing the share price movement. The company announced a 42.5 per cent interim dividend for FY 2006-07.
