Letters Hill banana growers
This is with reference "Palani, Sirumalai Banana growers unhappy" (Business Line, November 4). The dreaded Bunchy Top virus has brought this exotic fruit tree to near extinction. Trade and marketing have always been a challenge to the grower. With the majority of growers living in the remote hilly regions, selling their produce at a fair price has always been a problem. With a view to safeguarding the interest of these farmers, the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and the Department of Horticulture have encouraged the farmers to come together and form an association under the banner "Tamil Nadu Hill Banana Growers' Federation." Making available disease free tissue culture plants to the grower and fresh fruits to the consumer at a reasonable price are the objectives of this federation. Shaker Nagarajan, President, Tamil Nadu Hill Banana Growers' Federation
