Outlook Industry & Economy - Infrastructure States - Tamil Nadu Frontier Lifeline to promote `medical bioscience park' Our Bureau
Chennai , Nov. 7 Frontier Lifeline Hospital of Chennai intends to promote a `National Medical Bioscience Park' over a 360-acre land at Elavur village, north of Chennai. The park is expected to attract over Rs 2,000 crore of investments from various companies around the world in the fields of bio-informatics, nanotechnology, tissue-engineered products, apart from a 1,000-bed multi-speciality hospital and a nurses training college. Frontier Lifeline itself would invest Rs 100 crore in the multi-speciality hospital, Dr K.M. Cherian, cardiologist and Chairman and CEO of Frontier, told Business Line. "We are getting enquiries from various clinicians from all over the world expressing their interest in setting up facilities for super-speciality units in their respective fields," Dr Cherian said, while speaking at a function here. The function was held for the formal signing of a MoU between Frontier Lifeline and the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology. The MoU is for sharing of information and exchange of scientists, medical personnel and students of bioscience, biotechnology and clinical research. The bioscience park will also feature a 60-acre `bio-resources facility' in which animals will be bred for harvesting bio-products such as prosthetic valves, veins and arteries. Part of the facility will also be a `herbarium' for growing medicinal herbs. "A sterile bio-corridor will be set up in the bioscience park with support from different companies for commercial manufacturing of bio-products."
