The Hindu Business Line : Mining expo likely to generate Rs 1,000-cr biz

The 8th International Mining and Machinery Exhibition (IMME), which would be held here from November 22 to 25, may generate business worth Rs 1,000 crore, according to the principal organiser the Confederation of Indian Industries.Mr V.R.S. Natarajan, Chairman of the Mining & Construction Equipment Division of CII, said the previous IMME in 2004 had triggered business worth Rs 650 crore and 10 joint ventures.

"This time, going by the number of participation and the interest generated by the unfolding opportunities in the Indian mining sector, the projected business emanating from the fair and marketing or technology joint ventures or tie ups could be substantially higher than last time," Mr Natarajan, who is also CMD of Bharat Earth Movers, said.

The fair will provide an appropriate platform for equipment manufacturers, miners and related service providers to come together in terms of joint ventures, technology transfers, and strategic B2B alliances, the CII spokesperson said.

Partner country

Over 200 exhibitors from 15 countries are participating this time round. Australia is the partner country, which will have a national pavilion and would be represented by around 40 of its companies. A 60-member business delegation would be led by that country's Minister of Industry, Tourism and Revenue, Mr Ian Macfarlane. It would also hold an investment seminar.

The second big delegation or team of visitors would be from Germany, followed by the United Kingdom, China, Russia, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Sweden, Italy, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, Turkey, Nigeria, Peru, Somalia, Bahrain and the SAARC nations.

Indian participants will include Tata Steel, Aditya Birla Group, SAIL, Coal India, Jindal Stainless Steel, L&T, Volvo, Telcon and Cummins.
