Mumbai , Nov. 9 A conference on `Commodities - An Investment Opportunity' (Cominvest 2006) with specific focus on agricultural and non-agricultural commodities of special significance to Gujarat will be held during November 24-25 in Ahmedabad. In addition to bullion, of which Gujarat is a major consumer, the basket of commodities of great relevance to the State in terms of production and trade includes cotton, groundnut, castorseed and spices like jeera. Gujarat is the country's largest producer of many farm produce.
Emerging Opportunities
Not only do all these have a strong physical market in Gujarat, the level of derivatives trading in most of these items in the State is rather high. "There is tremendous appetite for investment and risk taking, and some of these commodities have brought attractive returns to investors in recent times," explained Mr Ravi Doraiswamy of Radical Communications, the event organising company. The conference is expected to bring together stakeholders in the trade both physical and derivatives to discuss emerging opportunities. The highlight of the meet would be a `price outlook' session for select commodities where experts will share their perspective on market dynamics. In addition to key Government officials from the State, commodity producers, traders, exporters and importers, commercial banks, brokers and other service providers are likely to participate.
