Kolkata , Nov. 9 More than 60 per cent of the employees in State Bank of India (SBI) have accepted transfers and changed their places of work in the past six years, according to Mr Ashok Datta, General Secretary of State Bank of India Staff Association, Bengal Circle. "This is the highest such movement of employees in the banking industry", Mr Datta said in a statement contradicting the perception that the SBI staff were resistant to transfers. Attributing the declining market share of SBI to "lack of vision and promptness at the policy-making level to change according to the changing market condition", he said the inept handling of the human resources issues by the top management too was responsible for the present situation. Mr Datta emphasised that the SBI staff were competent enough to take on any challenge, particularly the competition from the private and foreign banks. "The gap in efficiency, which was working to the disadvantage of the bank, is at the top, not at the bottom", he observed.
