NTPC is confident of getting the environmental clearance of its 1,000 MW Ennore project shortly.
The company's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr T. Sankaralingam, said today that work on the project could commence in March 2007. The `Notice Inviting Tender' would be issued in a week, he said.
The project would be put up by a joint venture of NTPC and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).
At a press conference here today, Mr Sankaralingam said that there was "a ray of hope" for reviving the 1,000-MW Cheyyur project, which was shot down a few years ago on environmental grounds.
He said that the company had approached Anna University to determine the `high tide line' for compliance with regulatory norms.
Mega power project
NTPC is also interested in an ultra mega power project that could come up in Tamil Nadu, most probably at Cuddalore.
Mr Sankaralingam told Business Line that NTPC may not be averse to investing in the Cuddalore port, the landing point for coal.
