Apollo plans cardiac centre

The cardio-thoracic team of Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, headed by Dr Vijay Diksit, has completed a record 10,000 open-heart surgeries.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Diksit said the hospital now plans to create a Rs 50-crore high-end cardiac centre here within a year. He said the patients were from all over the country and from host of overseas locations. He said that India is witness to high incidence of heart ailments.

Last year, India accounted for about 80,000 heart surgeries and the advanced healthcare in India is comparable to the best in the world. Over 95 per cent of the cases performed in the last three years have been beating heart surgeries.
