`Manufacturing in H1 records smart growth'

34 sectors posted over 20 pc growth: Survey

Power transformers, industrial furnace, textile machinery and tractors are among the manufacturing sectors that recorded more than 20 per cent growth in production in the April-September period of the current fiscal compared with the same period of the previous fiscal.

According to the Manufacturing ASCON Survey conducted by the CII, a total of 34 manufacturing sectors out of 125 sectors have recorded production growth of more than 20 per cent during the period. Another 47 sectors recorded a growth of 10-20 per cent and 31 sectors registered growth rate of 0-10 per cent, according to the survey.

Other sectors that led the growth included PVC, switchgears, power cables, circuit breakers, castings, fluid power and nitrogen boilers.

Sectors reporting negative growth are down to 14, as compared with 20 during the same period last year.

Sponge iron, ball and roller bearings and polyester staple fibre are among the sectors reporting sales that registered more than 20 per cent growth.

Out of the 63 sectors that reported their sales performance, 19 sectors registered growth of more than 20 per cent, 23 sectors registered growth of 10-20 per cent, while 18 sectors reported 0-10 per cent growth.

Other sectors on the sales front that led the growth included fluid power, boilers, transmission line towers, diesel engines, earth moving and construction equipment and textile machinery.

Three sectors recorded low or negative growth, according to the survey.

The export performance of the manufacturing sector too has shifted to high gear. Seventeen sectors such as abrasives, auto components, ball and roller bearing castings, fluid power, flat glass have shown more than 20 per cent growth in exports.

Seven sectors recorded 10-20 per cent growth, while 10 sectors recorded 0-10 per cent growth, according to the survey.
