The Hindu Business Line : Adobe Senior Vice-President's son abducted

Panic gripped industrialists and top executives of companies operating out of this booming industrial township after two men on a motorcycle abducted the three-year-old son of Adobe's Senior Vice-President, Mr Naresh Gupta, from near his Sector 15-A residence here on Monday morning. The sector is also home to a number of Supreme Court and Delhi High Court judges and senior lawyers.

The incident took place at around 8.30 a.m. when Anant, who is in the pre-nursery class of Lotus Valley School, was waiting for his school bus along with his maid, Asha. Two men on a motorcycle, one of them masked and the other wearing a helmet, stopped their vehicle close to him. Then in a flash, the pillion rider got off the bike and snatched Anant before the duo zipped away on their motorcycle.

Private security guards deployed in the area and passers-by rushed to the spot on hearing Asha's screams and subsequently called up the police. Acting on the complaint, the Noida police registered a case of abduction.

Several raiding teams have been formed to carry out search operations for Anant, but the police said they have not yet got any concrete clue on his whereabouts. They were tight-lipped on whether a ransom call had been received. The family has however denied personal enmity as the reason behind the crime.

The police suspect that the abduction is the handiwork of professional criminals as is apparent from the manner in which it was carried out. "They must have conducted a reconnaissance of the area and kept an eye on the daily routine of the child," said a senior Noida police officer, adding that at this juncture all possible angles were being investigated.

At the time of the incident, Mr Gupta was away to the United States while Anant's sister Kavita had already reached Lotus Valley School.
