Global investment banks and consulting firms are the hotspots this summer for students of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Over 68 per cent of the students chose investment banks for their internship programme in the summer of 2007.
The summer placement process, which kicked off on November 9 this year at IIM (B) had 28 international names visiting the campus. Over 50 per cent of the 253-student batch was placed during Slot Zero, according to student media representatives of IIM (B).
Largest recruiters
The largest recruiters for summer placements this year were Lehman Brothers (17), followed by Merrill Lynch (15), JP Morgan (nine), and Goldman Sachs (eight).
One of the highlights of this year's summer placement is that lateral profiles offered by firms such as Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank, are similar to that offered to students of Wharton and Harvard Business School. Deutsche Bank and Barclays Capital have offered Associate positions to IIM (B) students, a position that is generally offered to executives with 3-4 years' experience.
Several Indian firms, including ICICI, Tata Administrative Services, US Technologies and Ocwen have offered international locations for summer internships to students. A total of 101 students from the campus will be interning at global locations during the summer of 2007. Mr Sourav Mukherji, Chairperson Placement, however, refused to divulge details on stipend figures as a "matter of policy".
