Higher tea volume on offer at Coonoor sales

A huge volume of 15.24 lakh kgs has been catalogued for the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association this week.

This is the highest volume so far this year. The previous high was 14.36 lakh kgs offered at the auctions on November 2.

This is some 1.6 lakh kgs more than the volume offered last week. It is as much as 2 lakh kgs more than the volume offered in the corresponding sale of previous year.

More leaf

Of the 15.24 lakh kgs now coming up for sale, as much as 10.61 lakh kgs belong to the leaf grades and 4.63 lakh kgs, dust grades.

Again, as much as 14.35 lakh kgs belong to the CTC variety and only 0.89 lakh kgs, orthodox variety. The share of orthodox variety is low in both the leaf and dust grades.
