People States - Tamil Nadu TN Road Development Company CEO quits Our Bureau
Chennai , Nov. 16 There has been a change of guard at Tamil Nadu Road Development Company Ltd (TNRDC) with its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Rohit Modi, quitting. The infrastructure company, which is handling the implementation of the IT Corridor project in Chennai and the operation and maintenance of the East Coast Road, is now in the charge of Mr K.R. Viswanathan, a nominee of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (Tidco) on the TNRDC board. TNRDC is a 50:50 joint venture between the State Government and the IL&FS. Mr Modi confirmed that he had quit but declined to elaborate. He resigned from the post and was relieved on Tuesday. He is examining various options including two from leading players in the infrastructure field. Mr Modi belonged to the 1985 Manipur cadre of the IAS and quit the service in March 1999. He joined the IL&FS in April 1999, and was its nominee on the TNRDC board between May 1999 and June 2006. From June 2006, he was Tidco's nominee. It may be recalled that board of TNRDC was recently reconstituted to expedite the IT Corridor project, which is running a year behind schedule. The Tamil Nadu Highways Secretary, Mr K. Allaudin, took over as Chairman, from Mr Ravi Parthasarathy, who is the Chairman, IL&FS. The project envisages upgradation of the 45-km stretch of Old Mahabalipuram Road linking Chennai and Mahabalipuram. The first phase involves establishing a dual 3-lane carriageway up to Siruseri 20 km away. Among the other projects that TNRDC is associated with are the Chennai-Ennore Port Road connectivity project, the Adayar Eco Creek Park, the integrated infrastructure improvement of the Guindy industrial estate and the Road-Over-Bridge on National Highway 67 connecting Tuticorin and Coimbatore.
