Passenger vessel calls at New Mangalore port

The third passenger vessel of the cruise season during 2006-07 called at New Mangalore Port on Wednesday. The vessel - m.v. Spirit of Adventure - with 266 British passengers and 208 crewmembers on board called at the port in the morning.

Of them, 251 passengers visited places such as Karkala and Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district. They also visited some places in Mangalore city. The vessel, which came from Goa, left for Kochi in the evening.

Four cruise vessels called at New Mangalore Port during 2005-06 as against eight during the previous fiscal.

New Mangalore Port is all set to receive cruise vessels in a big way. In this regard, NMPT is developing cruise lounge for passengers at an estimated cost of Rs 2.05 crore. Work on the construction of the lounge has begun. The cruise lounge is expected to be ready during the next season.
