Tea 48 tea brands fetch higher prices P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Nov. 17 Forty eight brands of the CTC teas from the bought-leaf factories fetched an average price of at least Rs 5 a kg more than the auction average of Rs 46.73 fetched at the auctions held by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) till September. According to "Teas News" issued by Tea Board and the UPASI Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Darmona Estate Special was the only brand that fetched an average price of more than Rs 80 a kg. Its dust grades got as high a price as Rs 99.90, while the leaf grades Rs 80.10. The combined average was Rs 86.80. In all, 700 kgs had been sold under this brand. Five brands fetched an average price of Rs 70 to 79 a kg. Of them, 25,474 kgs of Darmona Estate brand fetched the highest price of Rs 78.73. The dust grades in the brand got Rs 80.70, while the leaf grades, Rs 76.05. Hittakkal Speciality got Rs 73.23, Homedale Estate Rs 72.60, Highfield Estate Special Rs 71.38 and Garswood Estate Clonal Special Rs 70.21. Twenty three brands got price in the range of Rs 60-69 and 19 brands got Rs 51 to 59. Among these, Riverside sold the largest volume of 3.45 lakh kgs fetching an average price of Rs 51.87. Mavukkarai sold 2.27 lakh kgs at an average price of Rs 53.70. Darmona Gold Premium sold 1.15 lakh kgs at an average price of Rs 64.18. Highfield Estate sold 1.14 lakh kgs at an average price of Rs 65.38
