Opinion - Letters
Agricultural productivity

The President has rightly endorsed the need for India to embark on a second Green Revolution to increase productivity through research and newer production methodologies.

If the food needs of the growing population have to be met, the per-acre productivity has to increase. This will, however, prove a Herculean task, with water for agriculture becoming scarcer.

The Central and State Governments should put a moratorium on the use of agricultural land for industrial and residential purposes.
