Shift in focus: Mustard seeds being packed at a retail shop in Thrissur, Kerala. With the minimum support price in the open market for the commodity fixed at Rs 1,715 a quintal by the Centre, farmers growing mustard across the country seem to have shifted to more profitable chana and wheat. The total area under mustard currently stands at 26.59 lakh hectares, down from 33.09 lakh hectares in 2005-06.
