To set up emergency response, interactive centre

A brand new fleet of "follow me" vehicles equipped with the Global Positioning System equipment and other modern aids have been procured to guide aircraft

New Delhi , Nov. 21

To overcome fog related problems at Delhi airport during the forthcoming winter season, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) is to set up a centralised emergency response and interactive centre to coordinate operations.

In a statement, DIAL has said that the Centre would be in direct touch not only with the Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) and apron control but also the airlines so as to have real time data.

In addition, DIAL will install pre-fabricated tents, which would not only be fire retardant and equipped with oil heaters and attached rest rooms, but also have flight information display systems, food and beverages trolleys and airlines information counters, to accommodate the overflow of passengers.

Help lines

"Help line numbers are also being set up to provide up-to-date information to passengers. In addition, a free parking lot is being set up near the airport to cater to the extra rush of passengers. A courtesy coach will connect this parking lot with the terminals. Seating in the terminal is being augmented and extra trolleys are being arranged," a company spokesperson said.

Similarly, on the air side additional stock of aviation turbine fuel will be kept as a contingency measure.

In addition, a brand new fleet of "follow me" vehicles equipped with the Global Positioning System equipment and other modern aids have been procured to guide aircraft on the ground during foggy conditions, officials added.
