Hyderabad , Nov. 21

The State Government has promulgated an Ordinance that empowers the takeover of the 855 acres of land and 10 sports complexes which were handed over to the IMG Academies Bharata for management.

The Ordinance 12 of 2006 annulled the registered deed of 2004 which alienated about 400 acres of prime Government land at Kancha Gachibowli near city in Ranga Reddy district.

The State had entered into an agreement to sell about 855 acres of land which includes 400 acres and another 450 acres of land at Mamidipalli also in the Ranga Reddy district, and five acres of land in the posh Banjara Hills.

The company had a mandate also to manage about 10 major stadia and equipment in Hyderabad along with the lands sold to the company. IMG Bharata had come in here as a specialised agency that would help promote sports and create additional infrastructure to boost sports in the State. The State Cabinet had recently taken a decision to acquire lands allotted to IMG Bharata and initiate an enquiry.

The Ordinance also declared the agreements that empowered the company to manage other sports facilities and share revenues with Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh as null and void.

The newly constructed facilities of GMC Balayogi Sports Complex, Indoor Stadium, Acquatic Stadium, Shooting Range were among those which were handed over to the company during the Chandrababu Naidu regime.

The Naidu regime had constructed most of these facilities ahead of the Afro-Asian Games and later handed them over them to IMG Bharata as it was felt that a professional group would be able to take care of them better and also promote sports.

After the new regime of Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy took over, he was keen that some of the public properties alienated by the Naidu regime would be taken over by the State.
