Market Shares States - Kerala Samsung targets 20 pc of Kerala mobile market V. Sajeev Kumar
Kochi , Nov. 22 Samsung has set a target of achieving 20 per cent share in the Kerala cellular phone market by mid-2008, according to Mr Sutikshan Naithani, Vice-President (Sales and Marketing). "Kerala is an important market for us as the share is currently 12-13 per cent, on par with metros and higher than the national average of 9-10 per cent." The market size in Kerala is estimated at 85,000-90,000 mobile phones in a month in the GSM segment and Samsung currently sells around 10,000 pieces. "We are planning to increase the branding in Kerala as well as launch new models very soon to capture the market," he said, adding that the trends are changing fast in the mobile phone segment.
NEW HANDSET
Mr Naithani told Business Line that in December, the company will introduce the SGH P 310 model, a credit card-sized phone with stylish exteriors and embedded with cutting edge features. Priced at Rs 21,499, the model will offer direct TV out, which enables video films and images to be played on TV, longest talk time with 15-hour and 21-day standby, 80 GB memory, etc. The company would be launching four other models in December. The mobile telephone industry in India is growing at 50-60 per cent and Samsung has initiated steps to launch more innovative products at regular intervals. The mobile phones manufactured in India are also finding export markets in various East Asian countries.
