Foreign Direct Investment Kerala to ensure speedy clearance of investment bids Our Bureau
`The culture of giving special concessions will discriminate between investors and would vitiate the investment climate.'
Kochi , Nov. 22 The State Government will not give out any sops and favours for investors and will rather provide a speedy clearance for all investment proposals coming into the State, the Chief Minister, Mr V. S. Achuthanandan, has said. The culture of giving special concessions will discriminate between investors and would vitiate the investment climate in the State, he said while addressing the GCC Transformation and Indo GCC Investment Opportunities (Qatar-Kerala) seminar here. He said that the Government has taken steps to remove all bureaucratic hurdles standing in the way of investment proposals, considering the increase in such proposals from abroad in the recent period. He also claimed that Kerala has overcome the negative image of not being investor friendly and the private sector is evincing more interest in investment in the State. Mr Sheikh Abdul Rehamn Bin Mohammed Bin Jabor Al Thant, Chairman and CEO of Doha Bank said that Qatar and Kerala are in the midst of economic transformation and both are seeking investment for developing economy. Kerala is on the right track of being a strong economic entity, he said. Earlier, a high level delegation from Qatar expressed interest in joint venture projects in the tourism, industry, healthcare and IT segments. Mr P. H. Kurien, the State Industries Secretary and Chairman of the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation listed various projects in the State for which Kerala was looking at investors. He said that the State is wooing investors for the logistics hub at Kochi and integrated textile park at Palakkad. The infrastructure company in which the State Government will have 26 per cent stake will be registered in a month. Seventy four per cent of the equity will be raised by residents and Non resident Keralites. The Tourism Director, Mr B. Suman said that Kerala would focus on projecting itself as a green state and as a responsible tourism destination. Allopathy would also be given focus besides ayurvedic treatment, he added.
