Bond prices edge up

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Nov. 22

Bond prices edged up on improved liquidity. The total traded volume on the order-matching system stood at Rs 6,470 crore (Rs 8,515 crore). Dealers said bond prices were initially range-bound but began moving up as there were reverse-repo (banks placing surplus cash with the RBI) bids worth Rs 23,560 crore (Rs12,075 crore on Tuesday) under the liquidity adjustment facility. With signs of improved liquidity, trades in short-dated securities increased, said a dealer at a private bank.

There could be some profit-booking on Thursday ahead of the Rs 5,000-crore auction on Friday, added the dealer. The 7.59-10 year-2016 paper opened at Rs 100.75 (7.47 per cent YTM) and closed at Rs 100.85 (7.46 per cent YTM), against Tuesday's Rs 100.76 (7.47 per cent YTM). The 9.39 per cent - five-year-2011 paper opened at Rs 107.84 (7.35 per cent YTM) and closed at Rs 108 (7.31 per cent YTM). The 8.07-11 year-2017 paper opened at Rs 104.57 (7.42 per cent YTM) and closed at Rs 104.58 (7.42 per cent YTM), against Tuesday's Rs 104.54 (7.42 per cent YTM).
