New Delhi, Nov. 22

RITES Ltd, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Railways, has assisted a procurement organisation of Afghanistan in getting the country's first ever ISO Certification. The first ISO 9001 Certification in Afghanistan has been granted to Afghanistan Reconstruction and Development Services (ARDS), a public organisation, involved in channelising donor resources for procurement of goods, works and services, said a RITES release. ISO 9001 is a certification for quality management standard.

RITES has been offering advisory and consultancy services in providing procurement facilitation services to ARDS under the World Bank-funded Public Administration and Capacity Building Project, facilitating rapid and transparent utilisation of donor resources for reconstruction and development since December 2004, it added. As per the communication, ARDS has stated that the Government of Afghanistan would like to put similar systems in place in other important areas.
