The Hindu Business Line : IIM-K's Opus meet begins tomorrow

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K), is all set to organise the 2006 edition of its annual operations seminar, Opus, at its campus on November 25-26.

The theme of the seminar this year will be `India Inc - from Sustenance to Operational Excellence.'

The seminar will to provide a platform for experts and innovators from the field of operations to share their views about the latest developments, the potential of the future and their critical analysis of the direction in which the field is developing. Delivering meals might not sound so cutting edge, but the runners of Mumbai, popularly called `Dabbawallahs,' has become a huge phenomenon today. From hep management gurus to Prince Charles, everyone has marvelled at their operational efficiency and synchronised time-delivery schedules.

One of the few organisations in the world to achieve a Six Sigma rating, their runners use a hugely complicated combination of colour, symbol coding and precision timing to pick up more than 170,000 lunches from the suburbs every working day and deliver them to offices, as well as schools and colleges, a press release from IIM-K pointed out.

Mr Raghu Megde, President and Mr Gangaram Talekar, Secretary, Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association (Mumbai Dabbawallahs), will be the two of the speakers at Opus this year and will talk about the efficiency of their supply chain.

The other speakers who are expected to address the seminar are Mr Rakesh Rajora, Vice-President, Accenture, Mr Ravind Mithe, Chief Consultant (Operations), ECS, Mr Syed, Miebach Logistics Group, Mr Pradeep Jadhav, Manager, CHAINalytics and Mr Sameer Shukla, Bristlecone Consulting.
